As a pioneering IEEE student branch, we introduced Predicta — an AI prediction challenge with a novel structure where teams apply AI, machine learning and data analytics to real-world problems. With AI and data science as “the new electricity”, Predicta inspires participants to explore and experiment with the technology itself.
Structure of the competition
Predicta consists of an awareness session, two knowledge-sharing sessions and the competition itself. The competition is held online: teams receive a real-world dataset and build a model to predict how the data evolves up to a given time frame. Predictions are evaluated against the actual evolution of the real data — so models must be innovative and accurately trained in limited time.
Workshops
Predicta 1.0 featured two workshops to help teams gain the edge.
- 01Workshop 01 — Mr. Mahesha Viduranga, Research Assistant, Multidisciplinary AI Research Centre (MARC), University of Peradeniya.
- 02Workshop 02 — Dr. Kaneeka Vidanage, Senior Lecturer, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
